Hello, my name is Semine and I am a researcher, born, raised, and based in Copenhagen, Denmark. I write about colonialism, museums and history of science in Denmark, Malaysia, and Singapore. I recently published Take Root Eat Root (2024) with Obra Press, a book about colonial botany in Honduras and Malaysia. I have also worked on a virtual recipe garden and written about industrial fruit distribution. I am currently affiliated with the Center for Applied Ecological Thinking at Copenhagen University.
I have been a research fellow at MIT, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the architecture practice APRDELESP, and the National Health Service in the UK. Sometimes I do editorial work, which recently included co-translating Karen Barad into Danish for Art Hub Copenhagen. I have also been a strategy consultant at ReD Associates where I worked within the pharma and medtech space. I hold a BA in Art History with Distinction from Cambridge University and a MSc in Architecture Studies from MIT.
I was part of the 2024 cohort at School for Poetic Computation, and I am generally interested in martial arts, cooking, poetry, psychoanalysis and collective organising.
